Part-Time Nanny Position    Chichester

September Start

Warms and lovely family are looking for a part-time nanny to fit into their family.

WORKING HOURS

Monday, Wednesday & Fridays 8.30-6.30pm involving school pick-ups, supporting the children's daily routines and creating a calm, fun and nurturing environment at home.

ABOUT THE FAMILY

The family has three children: an eldest son (11), a daughter (9), and a youngest son (7). Full details on each child are below — please note that for privacy, children are referred to by role rather than name.

Eldest son (11)

•       Has ADHD

Daughter (9)

•       Home educated

•       Loves arts and crafts, drawing, and drama

•       Potentially ADHD — not yet formally assessed

•       Very attuned to how hard things can be for the family with her younger brother's needs; she does not like it when childcare staff talk negatively about him in front of her, or comment on how hard it must be to have him — please avoid this

Youngest son (7)

•       Autistic; currently in Year 2 at a specialist school

•       A flight risk — needs close supervision, particularly outdoors

•       Toilet trained for wees; still in nappies for poos

•       Generally happy and content, with a great sense of humour

•       Loves his iPad and Paw Patrol toys

•       Says a few words and short sentences

•       Vocally stims, which can make the house noisy at times

•       Enjoys outings — a trip to the local park can usually be managed by one carer, but further afield may need two people, as he can find it hard to leave once out and about

FAMILY ETHOS & APPROACH

Bedtimes run later than average — around 9 / 9.30pm — as the two younger children don't seem to need a lot of sleep; the whole family goes to bed together, which helps them settle and (mostly) sleep through the night.

Home life is kept relaxed, as being stricter would mean constantly saying "no". We're looking for someone who can go with this, align with a gentle-parenting approach, and keep things low-pressure.

The two older children are sometimes given a little extra, in recognition of how tough it can be for them having a younger sibling who is disabled. We'd need the successful candidate to understand and respect this, and to avoid any comments about how "lucky" or "spoiled" they are — we have had this before and it isn't welcome.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

•       Proactive and fun-loving

•       Flexible and relaxed

•       Kind, gentle and patient

•       A good sense of humour

•       Comfortable with gentle parenting and a low-pressure home environment

•       Experience with additional needs (autism / ADHD) preferred

•       Discreet and non-judgemental, and sensitive in how the children are discussed

DUTIES

•       General childcare duties for all three children

•       School collections

•       Supporting daily routines and activities at home

•       Outings and activities, with awareness of the supervision needs of the youngest child

•       Maintaining a calm, structured-but-flexible environment in line with the family's parenting style
